In Gaza, more than 294,000 Palestine refugee students returned to 284 schools to begin the new semester. As the only UN agency in the world that runs a full fledge school system, UNRWA schools continue to be a safe haven and a sanctuary away from violence and deepening economic crises.
Young Palestine refugee children in Gaza are living with the devastating effects of 16 years of blockade and quality UNRWA education can help them cope with the daily challenges, while promoting values of tolerance, cultural identity, and gender equality. “Education is the path that we all must tread to not only ensure bright students, but also a strong community and a hopeful future.” said Farid Abu Athra, Chief of UNRWA Field Education Programme.
